Your Blood Sugars in

Perimenopause and Menopause

The symptoms, the biology and ten practical ways to bring things back into balance.

If your body has felt off lately, it may not be your willpower. It could simply be your biology, and once you understand what is going on, things often start to make a lot more sense.

From the mid-thirties onwards, our hormones begin to shift quite gradually. Oestrogen, progesterone and cortisol all start to fluctuate, and one of the first places this tends to show up is in blood sugar control. This can start well before anything like perimenopause, which is why it often catches us off guard.

When blood sugar swings, it doesn't just affect energy and cravings. It has a knock-on effect on your other hormones too, which is often behind symptoms like stubborn weight around the middle, energy dips or mood changes.

I see this pattern a lot in clinic: women doing all the things they feel they “should” be doing, yet still feeling like their body isn't responding the way it used to. Blood sugar regulation is often a bigger part of the picture than we realise, which is why it's one of the four pillars I work on with every 1:1 client and inside Thrive After 35.

Is this you?

☑️ Constant hunger or cravings for high calorie foods

☑️ Weight gain, especially around the middle

☑️ Fatigue that doesn't lift, even after rest

☑️ Waking in the night and struggling to get back to sleep

☑️ More hot flushes and night sweats than usual

☑️ Brain fog or a memory that feels less sharp

If any of these sound familiar, your blood sugars could be part of the story.
